London Oratory day – 2nd session 2006
Once again I surrender unconditionally at the Lotus Feet of my beloved Master Shri Shivabalayogi and a million times prostrations with deep love and reverence and a space full of love and blessings to all of you. To greet and welcome you all to this session of meditation to practise one more evening, one more opportunity. The Divine’s Grace is amazing. It’s always surplus. The wind is always flowing; we have to raise the sail. As my Guru said, “It’s flowing like the holy river Ganges. You have to build the dam called Faith and Devotion so that you can catch up with the vibrations, with the Grace and with the blessings.
In all these days we have been trying to know the meditation, its benefits and the need to practise and how to be determined, dedicated, disciplined and patient. Every item is important. Just like every organ in the body is important. We cannot simply say that the fingers are not important; it can be cut off by somebody, no problem, only eyes are important. Not like that. When you see, when you use it, when you lose it then you understand the value of such a part in the body. Until then very often we neglect, we are careless and we don’t try to visualize, understand the things. As Yudhisthira talks in the Yakshaprashna of Mahabharata, after so many questions the God of death asks him one particular question, “What is the greatest wonder of the world?” He said, “For me the greatest wonder is that everybody in this world knows that they are here temporarily and they have to pass away, their physical appearance. Yet everybody tends to forget and think they are going to be here permanently because their every action suggests so.” That’s what he tells.
That’s what once I was trying to talk. If we all understand that we are here for a while only, temporarily, then definitely the world can be better. We can live in a better, harmonious way. Just like if we are travelling for a short while, if we meet other people at that time we would like to be pleasant to each other, loving and caring, “Hello! How do you do? How are you?” All this type. Nobody would raise any unpleasant thing. Nobody would like to fight unnecessarily. So everything appears so harmonious. Just like in the hall. We are all here for just two hours or three. Everybody is talking in a friendly way to each other, offering everything. The same way if we understand that in this world also we are temporary, only for a while, then nobody would be fighting so greedily, so narrow-mindedly.
However this type of understanding is needed without trying to get panicked. This is not a thing to get panicked that we are not going to be here permanently. It is a thing of knowledge and wisdom that we need to gain and understand. Once this physical body is lost we don’t know whether the same good quality of human birth or body will be available or not. That’s what my Master told, “Beware, do not lose the opportunity, this is such a rare gem that you have obtained a human body.” A Saint tells, “After having being born on this earth and as a human being, If all the organs are alright and perfect, in spite of that if we cannot remember God, what an ill luck to befall on such a person.” Saint Avvaiyar says this. So such is this rarest of opportunity. People keep talking, reading in scriptures so many things about reincarnation, having to be born again. But well, one thing is true, as Adi Shankara also talks and as we experienced in the Tapas. We do recommend that ‘purnarapi jananam, purnarapi maranam’ is a true thing. Again and again you are born and you have to die, the physical body will perish. But one thing nobody can guarantee is what type of life that you might obtain once it is lost. It always seems that human life is on the edge. From a lower creature you get evolved to a higher. How this technology happens is based on the instincts and intensity of your mind’s thought, its habits. If it becomes non-violent, as non-violent as possible, then it gets purified. Then it’s a pure consciousness eligible to go towards the Divine because the Divine is Supreme Pure, the pure Consciousness of Existence. Just like the space is the purest of pure Existence because nothing can touch the space, nothing can burn the space. Nothing can cut or harm the space. And space doesn’t even ask for oxygen for its existence. It exists in itself in the purest of pure form. It appears as a space because we think it to be space. We imagine it in our own way as a void, as a place, as a vacuum, all these things.
So that’s how, if a mind becomes non-violent, meaning if it loses its imaginations which give rise to worries often, if it can be simply thinking, it is not a big problem. Thinking is needed to live in this world. Do not misunderstand when I talk that your mind has to be quiet. It need not become dumb. It can be thinking when needed, but its thinking should not go into worries and cravings. That is the problem. We remember in our primary school the teachers used to tell that ‘the agni of chinta‘ meaning this fire of worry is much more dangerous than the funeral pyre. ‘Chinta agni’ – such is the thing which eats you up while you are alive in the world, does not allow you to sit peacefully, happily. Some people do wonder what are we looking for by trying to meditate? What are we looking for when we go to God? Are we looking for a million dollars? Are we looking for a big palace? Are we looking for some status, power? We ask all these things when we look for happiness and peace because we have a particular type of imagination about our happiness. “I will be happy if I can get a million pounds.” That’s what one’s imagination is, that’s when we try to go for that. But instead of that, if we can ask, pray to God, “Just give me peace and happiness” then the Divine will look after you. The Divine knows what peace and happiness means. He will give the right type of peace and happiness. That’s why we need to remember God. That’s why we need to adopt meditation and sadhana. That’s what means the mind becoming non-violent, it eventually becomes the Pure Consciousness. Even if a little bit of thoughts are there, it gets an elevated birth, a better birth from childhood itself and instincts, habits come, symptoms come so that we get attracted to the spiritual path. If it becomes more violent, more greedy, more narrow minded, more revengeful it gets a degraded birth. But, however, nobody can trace once the body gets dropped because the soul is not a peanut type of piece. It’s the mind which reincarnates again and again based on its thought processes. To stop these thought processes, to cleanse these thought processes is why the sadhana is recommended. Satsanga and the meditation, remembering God in every way that is possible, because you cannot trace yourself. Only when you practise in this life, based on the habits of the mind it automatically reincarnates, because you cannot think and plan in the last moment.
During a lecture of a scripture a particular story of Bhagvatam, one person heard the story of Ajamila. The Ajamila story is that Ajamila is supposed to have been a very wicked, evil-minded person throughout his life. But for his luck somehow the remembrance of God influenced him during the fag end of his life. When he died he could remember the name of Narayana. That was the last moment he remembered with all his sadness. He felt sorry for his evilness. He wanted to overcome it. It is said that he got liberated.
So one miser, one stingy personality, a merchant thought, “It is very easy to get Liberated, it’s wonderful. There is no need for me to keep trying and trying to meditate throughout my life. It’s all waste of energy. I can simply enjoy this world. Earn my money. I can remember God at the end. That is enough.” He thought. For this he also thought of a beautiful plan. He thought that he might forget to remember God so he thought, “If I name all my children in the name of God I’m definitely to remember God because I will always be attached to my children.” So he kept all his children’s names as Rama, Krishna, Shiva like that; whatever God’s name was appealing to him. So he kept the name of all the Gods and Goddesses to his children. He thought, “When I’m about to die I’m suddenly to call all my children so then if I die by calling the name of God I will get Liberated.” That’s what he thought. So when he became old – the time does not wait, time and tide does not wait. The body was young, it became middle aged then it went old and then he was about to die, he fell ill; he was on his deathbed. He thought, Now it is like that, any moment I might die.” So he called all his children one by one thinking, “If I call Rama and then if I die that’s wonderful.” He called Rama, Rama came but he did not die, Krishna came but he did not die, all his children came and he did not die. Finally he remembered, “Such a person owes me a million dollars. Don’t forget to take this debt from him.” He said that and he died. He couldn’t remember God finally. It was not in the habit of the mind. The mind had become habitual to remember only money. So that’s how it happens. That’s what the Gurus warn, they alert that the mind behaves according to its habits. So you have to practise it when the body is intact and in a better position to do this sadhana. Otherwise in the end, easily the remembrance of God does not come. One needs to practise, based on the habits only it comes. So then only one can get Liberated.
There is a beautiful story in Yoga Vasishta also. If I remember because the reincarnations can be so mind boggling and illusory. Simply you cannot trace out what you are going to become, what time, what is going to happen, you cannot plan that also. There was a king called Padma, his wife was Lilavati, the Queen. She was a great spiritual lady, a devotee of Goddess Saraswati. She had a siddhi that whenever she remembered Goddess Saraswati her mind was so concentrated, it would enable the Divine to manifest as Goddess Saraswati. So once another enemy kingdom declared war against this kingdom. The king Padma had to go to the battlefield. After a few days unfortunately he got killed in the battle. His dead body was brought to the palace by his attendants. They were all very sad. His wife Lilavati was so much immersed in sadness of losing her husband she could not bare the sorrow. She forgot even God, she forgot even Saraswati, everything she forgot. She was totally weeping and crying for eight continuous days. Day and night she was crying on the dead body of her husband. On the 8th day, for her luck, it suddenly occurred to her about God, “Let me remember Goddess Saraswati. She’s the only one who can help me now, who can bring my husband back into life.” So when she remembered, Goddess Saraswati appeared. When she requested what she wanted Goddess Saraswati said, “Let me show you your husband. What he is in his next incarnation. Then you will understand what this illusion is, what you are crying for unnecessarily? If you think this body is your husband, this body is here, why you are crying? You can have this as long as you want. But if you think that something else that has gone out, which you don’t know about, that means that you do not know anything about that which has really gone out of this body. Let me show you.” In an astral body, in a layer of subtle body, the story says that she takes Lilavati. They travel a long way. The story explains to make it more interesting, travelling here and there in space, on the mountains, everywhere. They reach another world and see in that kingdom her husband is born there. So Saraswati shows Leelavati her husband. “Look at this husband.” On seeing that she is astonished terribly, “Oh mother. I have total faith in you, that you would never tell me a lie. Whatever scene that you would show me it would always be the truth. I accept it. But my wonder is, it was only eight days ago that my husband passed away. But here this man already seems to me more than thirty, forty years old. And he has so many children. He has his own Queens and he doesn’t seem to be remembering me at all. He is happy with his own family and he is enjoying. How come this happens?” So then Goddess Saraswati explains to her the mind and its tricks of illusions. Time and space concept she explains. That’s what the Yoga Vasishta book explains. By the remembrance of God your mind shall lose the concept of these imaginations. It is the mind which imagines. The same thing appears to be so. “For you it was eight days, that is in your mind.” Again this is something else here.
That is how the illusion works. Just like if for a while at night you are sleeping, it could be eight hours that you would have slept but if your mind has failed to notice by becoming unconscious it might simply appear as 2 minutes for you when you get up. That’s what the time is. If the talk, meditation becomes so interesting for you all then these 2-3 hours can simply pass by like a few minutes. The devotee’s who come closer to us when they fall in love with the Guru they start lamenting how quickly these 10 days have passed. “Ten days ago Baba came and tomorrow He is going to leave. It appears as if He came only yesterday.” The time has passed by but still the mind imagines to its own imaginations. That’s how everything is simply an illusion. What is important is the present. That is the most important because every moment is precious. Every moment that passes by does not come back. Past is only in the memories simply, but the mind broods. And the future is only a thought, an anxious thought always, until it becomes the present. It is not evidential. So that is what is important, the present moment. We have to utilize it so that the mind becomes as quiet as possible. If the mind becomes quiet, that is the real worship. I assure you. Until then the worship of God is not at all real. If the mind does not get applied, simply we offer flowers, garland, candles, camphor and aaratis, whatever ritual we can do no problem, but along with that it is important the mind should also be there. If the mind is running elsewhere on the streets and into the World Cup and Wimbledon Championships and one is doing aarati here that is no worship at all. That is not connected to meditation. That is why meditation is taught. That is important. To set priority means that if you are here you are here physically, mentally in everyway. If you are meditating you should be meditating physically, mentally also the mind has to be there. Because, as I always keep telling, the mind’s Ultimate Truth is God, the mind belongs to God. Just like the sun’s rays belong to the sun, droplets of the ocean belong to the ocean. The mind belongs to God. Either it is distracted and is running like a wandering monkey in this world, jumping and making you dance to its tunes, or when it becomes quiet, it goes towards its origin called God. That is the Divine, that is the Self, that is the Nirvana that is the Moksha, everything, that is what it is. You can call it any name because there is no other way for the mind, it doesn’t go any other third way to escape. It cannot escape like that.
So the basic idea is to make the mind quiet and achieve perfect concentration. That is your effort of two steps. That is your job that you have to achieve, you have to put in efforts and do it. To do this one you can draw inspiration, you can expect guidance, you can expect blessings and Grace but never expect any spoon feeding from anybody. If anybody tells you, “You need not do anything I will give you everything,” never believe that one. You are going to cheat yourself. You need to put in efforts. Every great soul has put in efforts and achieved this. Whether it was Buddha or it was Rama, Krishna, Shivabalayogi or anybody. After doing the Tapas, after doing the sadhana only it has been achieved. When Lord Shiva came to my Guru, Shri Shivabalayogi, He simply came to initiate. He did not come to give enlightenment. He had to do twelve years Tapas. Not before that, it was not given. Every person will have to put in effort to do the sadhana. Swamiji Himself told that you have to do sadhana, then only you will know the truth. He did not tell that you can be dancing, anything and I will give you meditation. He said that you will have to practise meditation. “Dhyana is your religion” He said. “Dhyana is your caste. Dhyana is your thing. You will know the truth through dhyana, through meditation. Only then one can achieve.” He said. So one should never misunderstand this aspect and one should never remain casual in putting in efforts towards this direction. Then only the life is useful, it is not a waste. Every moment is precious. It will be utilized perfectly.
Human life is such a rare gem, a beautiful developed brain is available. Brain is like a tape recorder, a physiological, biological organ in the physical body. It enables you to think, use the intelligence, buddhi. Swamiji used to tell that use your buddhi, use your intelligence, to discriminate between right and wrong, the real and unreal. Try to ponder and think over which can give you the Supreme Peace. A permanent Peace once and for all.
As a child of eight I used to think if there is peace and happiness it must be there at all times of 12 months, 24 hours. Why it is that sometimes tension comes? Whether it is a child of 8 years or a person of 80 years, the tension would be the same. Its shape may be different. If one is anxious to face the examination another might be anxious to face death. That is all the difference. Anxiousness is always there, tension is always there, clinging to habits of the mind is always there. To get a small peppermint chocolate also the mind can become anxious, worried, tensed and losing all temper. Becoming thirsty, greedy anything can happen. It is the problem of all human beings. Concentration achievement is important. The practise is the thing which can make anybody perfect. So this is the mantra one needs to learn – the Dedication, Discipline and Patience., the rest is all simply illusion. Only the Existence is the Truth. That’s what Vasishta talks to Shri Rama in his yoga upadesha. The problem and trouble is only in the mind. If you understand this then it is enough. The rest is all simply perfectly alright. We need not bother about this world whether this world is right or wrong. Just now if the weather is warm we need not start worrying whether this is evil or this is good, if this is right or wrong. Whether God is doing evil or good by making the weather warm. That’s not the thing.
We will have to bother about our own minds. If it is troubling us, if it is not giving us peace here is something wrong in our own minds. That’s what our Guru says always, “All those people who can diagnose their own faults and then put in efforts to rectify, they always become great, greatest of the great and they can achieve the Divinity within them.” When we do practise meditation, when we did Tapas actually we were rectifying our own faults of the mind, strengthening it to become quiet and one with the Divine. To achieve the Supreme Peace, the story of Baba’s title has been given ‘Beyond Bliss’. Some people keep asking me is there anything else beyond bliss because this is the terminology used, Supreme Bliss is needed. But actually Baba would like to use the word Peace (that is beyond bliss) because, in our experience, blissfulness happens when you advance in your meditation when the mind is going towards Samadhi when it has overcome all the visual effects, thought processes of the world and of its own practises. It is still not achieved that total Samadhi, total Peace, then a blissful nature happens. It would be very tasteful, this blissful nature can create an excitement also. Very often people can misunderstand this to be the final goal and they stop sadhana. But that’s not the recommended thing. One must keep going until the mind totally settles peacefully. Peace and bliss mean, peace is the composed thing but the blissfulness can give some excitement. It can give energy, it can make you jump and in the process the mind can jump back into this world vigorously with equal power. So one can lose control over the mind. One can be doing the wrong thing when one gets excited. Lose the temper also, lose control over the mind. So that’s what happens sometimes.
So achievement of maturity is the Peace, that’s what is meant by beyond bliss. You have to go to the Peace. Om shanti, that’s what the sages also recommended, to achieve Peace. Effortlessly the mind has to settle down into the Peace, by abandoning all cravings of the mind and remain there totally satisfied. Contentment is the amazing thing that you can achieve. If there is contentment you are always happy. My Guru said, “A person becomes poor by desires. If there is contentment nobody can bend you to your knees.” You’ll be like an emperor. So if you practise meditation regularly, it can be awful in the beginning, it can be difficult, it can be torturous but if you can be like a valiant solider adopting the attitude, “No problem, I need this and I’m going to have it, I’m going to do it for myself. Never mind about the age of the body.” It is worthwhile to practise till the last breath of life come what may. It will always be useful, it will be carried further.
It is like a fixed deposit every moment that you remember God, every moment that you try to keep your mind quiet. If the mind becomes quiet you are remembering God actually because when we try to remember God by the name or by a form in the bhakti marga that is the basic idea. Simply we try to imagine God and we try to limit God, in any case we cannot limit God to our imagination. Everybody knows this. Every scripture talks this that God is everywhere. So if we can stop our imagination and if the mind can become quiet actually we are remembering God. The mind is going toward God. So that is the secret of this unique meditation when we tell that there is no need to repeat any mantra, name or form anything. Sometimes people tend to get confused, “What am I doing by remaining quiet? By watching here? Is this God?” God is everywhere means everything has to be God. If you think that there is only darkness when you close your eyes, some people ask that, “Babaji I see only the darkness. Where is God? How can I get God if I don’t call God?” So you need not telephone and call God by the name and any such things. If you simply keep watching and if the mind becomes quiet it goes towards God automatically. God has to be in the darkness and in the light also, everywhere. The darkness is the ignorance actually, the light is the knowledge and wisdom. So that’s what you need to understand. Once the concept becomes clear in the mind, the practise becomes easier. If it becomes clear in your mind that your mind has to become quiet then you won’t think anything. Then you will understand, “Oh! I should not be thinking, I have to become quiet.” Again the mind will jump into thinking. “Oh! I have to become quiet.” Stick to one thought. If it becomes difficult to remain quiet think, “I have to meditate, that is what is important,” or do not analyze any thoughts.
Question and answers
Question:
Babaji if we feel some sort of physical discomfort during meditation is it okay to move into a better position or should we try and overcome that?
Babaji:
While keeping the eyes closed and trying to keep the concentration intact as much as possible you can move your hands and legs a little bit. Not moving too much. So that you stretch out and then bring it back then you can continue for some more time easily. See this is no problem. God will not get annoyed. Don’t worry.
Question:
Babaji I just wondered if it would slow down the spiritual progress if we occasionally did two shorter meditations rather that one longer one.
Babaji:
Different times you can practise in a shorter way in the beginning until you are able to sit for a longer time. Say a time of thirty minutes is also better. At least something is better. But once you practise a single sitting it will always be more beneficial ultimately.
Question:
Babaji, during meditation when you say we put our attention here, mind. I am having problem with that because I find that because I am putting my attention in my mind here. It’s effort. I’m putting effort into it and I can’t go beyond that. I’m thinking “Keep this here, keep the mind here.” So I can’t go deeper because I’m trying to keep my attention on the mind “here, my mind here.’
Babaji:
In the beginning it shall happen because the eyeballs do not come easily to one direction, its parallely moving. The movement and jerks of eyelids and eyeballs can give the jerk and pain to the mind also. It is important that first you do not move the eyeballs also and keep the attention as much as possible. You need not force in-between the eyebrows also even the front portion if needed. Still if it is difficult you can look a little lower towards the tip of the nose or little somewhere here. That is easier. After some practise you would be easily able to lift it upwards or on it’s own it will become concentrated. So that will become alright a little later if you practise regularly.
Question:
Babaji, how can meditation help us to surrender while we work in the world?
Babaji:
So the mind starts losing its agitations and the tendency to unnecessarily analyze everything and making judgments of its own. So when it becomes quiet that’s what the real surrender is. The surrender is really taught so that the mind can become quiet because the mind is always restless. It wants to know everything. Wherever, whatever it wants to know, its limits. The mind can never tell the truth because it can tell you only based on its own imaginations. So meditation can definitely help you to really surrender, technologically surrender in everyway. Surrender means that the mind has to become quiet. Not simply if we touch our heads and do a deep prostration we do not convey surrender. Our mind gets agitated and it has doubts and confusions. So when it becomes quiet it loses all its confusions and imaginations, everything. It becomes quiet, the progress improves and it becomes much easier to go towards the Divine.
Question:
I have found that in recent months when I am at sort of the best part of my meditation and when I am most surrendered, my neck moves from side to side. I don’t know if I should leave it, relax or do anything or if I should straighten myself up?
Babaji:
You have to straighten. Keep yourself straight as much as possible. Sometimes, either because of some nervous practises these things can happen. Other than that, spiritually if there is some energy movement is there then also it can happen. You should straighten and keep it steady and composed. You should not allow it to happen. If it goes like that, bring it back and practise like that so that for longer time it remains in that way.
Question:
Are there any exercises I should do beforehand?
Babaji:
Before sitting for meditation also you do some exercises of moving the neck, like this, up and down also and rotating the neck. These types of exercises you do. They are very helpful.
Question:
Is there any merit in meditating on any other chakra?
Babaji:
There is really no need because the mind has to come upwards. Among other chakras, ajna chakra is the top most chakra. That is why the mind has to come here. Then You’ll be the commanding officer of your own mind energy. Your mind has to come here. This is the closest to the brain. When mind totally comes here then it lifts the body consciousness, what you call as kundalini also. They are not the physical chakras actually. One can always try to practise if one has been practising, but ultimately it has to come here again. So if you hold your mind at the ajna chakra the rest automatically happens. The body consciousness also comes over here and then it gets delinked from the brain, when it goes to Samadhi. That’s when you might feel sometimes as if you are here (at the head) before you lose all the location of going into Samadhi. This location is what is called the sahasra kamala.
Question:
Pranam Babaji, what would say about the shakti path tradition of the Guru giving experiences through sight and touch?
Babaji:
Actually whoever does this one cannot give complete enlightenment. It’s only a little bit just like giving a ten dollar to you when you do the business only you can develop and make more money. But you will have to put in efforts ultimately. During initiation from a Yogi this automatically happens. Certain amount of power, energy gets transmitted. Also then you might feel a pull also here. But then you will have to put in efforts to do the sadhana. Only then you will become enlightened, because if through shakti path people can get enlightened there was no need to be so much of miseries and suffering and sadhana, all these problems in the world, everybody would have easily become enlightened by a touch. So that does not really happen. One has to do sadhana. That is important.
Question:
Babaji if you have a back problem is it possible to meditate in the lying down position?
Babaji:
You can try to meditate but you need to take care that you do not fall asleep. As long as that is possible you have to be alert. So if you are fresh sometimes you can lie down and try to concentrate also. Then there is no problem.
Question:
Does it matter if we eat meat or do we have to be vegetarian?
Babaji:
Many times this question has been asked. Particularly my Guru never advised for any particular type of food. He did not touch this topic as it can always create some dispute or controversy. He thought that all over the world people have different types of practises based on weather conditions, availability, so many reasons can be there and also He used to say that if I prescribe a particular thing and you do not eat this, your mind might be thinking the same in your meditation. So He said that, “Just bother about meditation and be in anyway of life that is really no big problem. As you progress in meditation you will be able to adopt on your own choice. This is a thing one cannot impose.” That is what He felt. However, on a personal opinion we can always recommend that if vegetarian light foods are taken then it is better because that will have to become produced as blood, and the blood has to be supplied to the brain. So on that depend the brain cells. If the brain is more enhanced into concentration and better quality thing then it’s helpful in mind’s concentration. Otherwise the brain can become dull and become sleepy. So if it is possible for you to stick to green leafy vegetables and wheat products these types of things which are not heavy, light meals then it would be very helpful in meditation.
Question:
Babaji I wondered if you could talk a little bit more about kundalini and any possible way of avoiding any problems while if you happen to raise kundalini because there are several people that I have come in contact with who have had such problems.
Babaji:
One thing which is important to understand is what kundalini is. The term is used it means coiled energy. That is what kundalini is. Kundalini is nothing but the other portion of the mind. One portion of the soul’s consciousness has gone into the world with imaginations. Based on the thoughts you recognize it as the mind. If you remove all the thoughts what is the mind made up of? It is a pure consciousness. That’s all. So the same pure consciousness has gone into the body. It has spread all over the body, which is known as kundalini. Because of this consciousness only you have obtained consciousness of yourself as the physical body. That potency of strength of consciousness is less than that of the mind which is spread through the universe and is infinite. So now the sadhana starts so that first you try to control the mind because when the mind comes hundred percent totally concentrated then it can lift the kundalini easily. They both become one piece and get delinked from the brain’s reflections and go towards Samadhi. This is what happens.
Compared to the mind kundalini is weak. Mind is more strong because it is spread widely, its strength is much more. Without proper detachment and sadhana the mind does not come. Some people try to raise the kundalini by some means. Then this problem arises because it cannot come up, it cannot withdraw the mind easily. The mind can get into a lot of greed and lust. It might run. Then the kundalini might get dropped or get stuck. This type of energy problems do happen. That is why a sadhak is always advised just to bother to concentrate about the mind, not to bother about the kundalini. Then when the mind comes as much it can come, it tries to become concentrated and it keeps trying to lift the kundalini. Nothing else will happen. Simply some energy movement, some burning sensation this type of things do happen. So when the mind again runs away that also gets fallen again. So one day, when the mind is able to come back one hundred percent totally concentrated then it lifts the kundalini easily on its own. That’s why in ancient times the teacher would have been talking like this and different misunderstandings have been happening. Just like serpent power, a coil, a serpent. As a child sometimes I also used to think that if at all there is a serpent in the body scientists would have operated and taken it out and kept in the museum. What is this kundalini? I used to wonder. But finally when we did sadhana we understood that it is only the consciousness, that’s why it is invisible. You cannot catch hold of it. That doesn’t happen. Suppose a teacher would have been explaining, “When the mind comes hundred percent, so this kundalini rises like a serpent, like this.” So the student who would have been listening if they had misunderstood the teachers said something like serpent rising. “Oh, it must be some serpent which is inside the stomach or somewhere it is lying.” So these types of misunderstandings always happen by not proper paying attention to the teachings of a Guru. So these are all the misunderstandings, miscalculations, mis-happenings. My advice is one should never try to raise the kundalini without trying to bring the mind into control. That’s when some problems might arise.
Question:
It’s a cosmic illusion that is holding me down and I want to free myself. Its hypnosis that is keeping me here and I am struggling to break free. But its troubling not being able to do so.
Babaji:
You can overcome this, it is possible. The problem always happens when the mind gets into its own hypnosis of imaginations. So if you practise mediation regularly then you will be able to overcome and get rid of this cosmic illusion. My Guru will always bless you. Do not worry. I assure you if, you practise meditation then you can overcome it easily.
